Qatar Charity distributes relief materials to flood survivors in Darchula

October 20, Kathmandu: Qatar Charity has provided relief materials to the flood and landslide survivors of the Darchula district.

Darchula district faced a huge loss of life and property due to floods and landslides following incessant rainfall in September.

Flooding in the local Lasku river killed five people and destroyed more than 200 houses in Mahakali Municipality and Naugad Rural Municipality in the district.  

The flooding also destroyed one motorable bridge, two suspension bridges, a school building, and an electricity powerhouse.

According to the District Administration Office (DAO), Darchula, almost all wards of the two local units were affected by the floods.

Qatar Charity in coordination with the DAO, local governments, police administration, and Darchula Red Cross Society, distributed the relief materials to the floods and landslide survivors.

Qatar Charity provided kitchen materials to 42 households, corrugated roofing sheets to 53 households, and food materials, agriculture tools and equipment, seeds, and sanitation materials to 150 families, according to Acting Director Irshad Sheikh.  

The relief materials were provided with the financial support of UK Aid and Start Network.

HEAL Nepal and Volunteer Corps Nepal coordinated the distribution of the relief materials.
