Stranded climbers, guide rescued from Mera peak

Kathmandu: The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) has rescued the stranded climbers and guide from Mera peak (6,470 metres) of Solukhumbu. They were stranded while returning after scaling the peak.

Those rescued were four foreign summiteers and one Nepali guide. They have been brought to Kathmandu.

Issuing a press release, NMA chair Santa Bir Lama informed that four foreign climbers and one Nepal guide who were trapped midway back home after scaling the peak were rescued at the initiative of the related company. They were trapped midway due to sudden weather changes in recent days.

The rescued ones have been receiving treatment at Grande Hospital, Kathmandu. They had embarked on an expedition via Makalu Adventure Pvt Ltd by receiving a permit from NMA. Similarly, a team mobilized on foot rescued the members of the Sherpa Events Organizers and took them to safety at Lukla.

However, an expedition team member from the Victory team, Chheten Sherpa, has gone out of contact for four days and the search for him has been intensified with coordination from various sides including ministry, tourism department, and district administration, NMA added.
