Egypt-mediated truce ends latest spate of violence between Israel and Palestinian Islamic Jihad
August 8, Kathmandu: A truce has been declared by Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad ending three days of violence that saw both sides exchange rocket fires.
The truce was mediated by Egypt.
The truce raises hopes of an end to the most serious rocket attacks on both Israel and the Gaza strip in more than a year.
The truce was announced in separate statements by Islamic Jihad and then Israel, who both thanked Egypt for mediating the ceasefire.
The rocket attacks have claimed as many as 43 lives in the Gaza strip in just the last three days.
