NC President Deuba wishes continuation of zeal for General Convention till election

Kathmandu: Prime Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has urged party leaders and cadres currently in Kathmandu in course of attending the party’s 14th General Convention to carry on the enthusiasm and energy they are showing at the moments till the election.

Releasing a book titled ‘Nepali Congress and Nation Building’ by NC Joint General Secretary Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat amidst a program here today, the Party President said, “The party cadres and leaders attending the General Convention should continue their enthusiasm and liveliness till the election. I expect the role of you all to let a ground for the party to emerge as one with majority votes in the election.”

The book was launched amidst the presence of scores of people gathered in Kathmandu on the eve of the party’s mega event.

On the occasion, he said, “Our maximum efforts will be for electing a new leadership through a consensus. If not possible, there lies an option for democratic procedures.” He was of the view that the election results should be accepted as usual.

As Deuba argued, the NC 14th national gathering is not only the party’s national event, rather it is a big opportunity for the future of Nepal’s democracy. He went on to say that he hoped the party people would contribute to further strengthening the Congress once they return to their respective stations after making the Convention successful.

The NC President took time to praise the writer for highlighting the features of the economy during the BP Koirala-led government. As he said, he always found author Dr. Mahat as a hardworking and responsible personality.

The book is about the economy dating back to the first people’s elected government led by NC veteran leader BP Koirala (1959-60).

According to Dr. Mahat, he had an MA thesis on economics from the Tribhuvan University on the same topic and the book is a revised form of the same dissertation.

His research paper focused on how BP Koirala had introduced the concept of democratic socialism in Nepal despite numerous political and social challenges at that time.

Commenting on the book, Dr. Poshraj Pandey and Dr. Prabhu Budhathoki viewed that it would make the readers aware that economic policy adopted by the NC during the term of BP Koirala was the economic policy of a modern Nepal. The book is published by the BP Koirala School of Public Policy.
