Nepali Congress obstructs the parliamentary session of today’s House of Representatives

June 18, Kathmandu: Today’s meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) has been put off due to obstruction of Nepali Congress.

Nepali Congress lawmakers stood from their respective seats as a gesture of protest soon after Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara announced the commencement of the meeting. The Nepali Congress said that it was compelled to protest after Speaker Mahara did not allocate time to them as the leaders of the opposition party had to be allotted time to put forth their views on contemporary issues.

Speaker Mahara, at the time when Nepali Congress lawmakers were protesting after standing at their respective seats, said that he would give time to them later as the Prime Minister wanted to make a statement on the issues of public importance. The NC lawmakers assembled and chanted slogans before the rostrum, saying parliamentary discipline should be maintained and time is given to the lawmakers of the opposition party to speak first. Though Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli reached the rostrum to give a statement on public importance, he could not make the statement due to the protest by the main opposition party lawmakers.

The next meeting of the House of Representatives is scheduled on Wednesday at 11 am.
