Tourism Council urges all to seek alternative to bandha

February 4, Kathmandu: Pokhara Tourism Council has urged all sectors to seek an alternative to bandha (general shutdown) at a time when the tourism industry has suffered worst due to the Covid-19.

It requested the political parties to create tourist-friendly atmosphere because the political instability and shutdown and strikes would impact adversely to entire economic activities of the country.

Issuing a press statement today, Council Chairman Gopi Bahadur Bhattarai said, “The general shutdown has badly affected the entrepreneurs and especially daily wage earners. Such activities must come to an end.”

He further reminded that political parties could help create an atmosphere where people’s livelihood would be enhanced and national economy bolstered.

Similarly, the Council objected to the provision of keeping foreign tourists in quarantine for 10 days.

The provision needs to be relaxed considering the adverse situation facing the tourism industry, it argued.
