Nepal and China agree to promote mutual cooperation

September 10, Kathmandu :  Nepal and China have agreed to promote cooperation in various sectors of mutual interests. Both countries have also consented to implement the agreements and understandings reached between the two sides in the past.

Nepal and China reached the agreement for the same in yesterday’s delegation level bilateral talks held between Minister for Foreign Affairs Pradeep Kumar Gyawaliu and visiting Chinese State Councilor and Minister for Foreign Affairs Wang Yi and the Chinese delegation led by the latter. Chinese Foreign Minister Wang is currently on a three-day official visit to Nepal. He arrived in Kathmandu on Sunday at the invitation of Minister Gyawali.

The press statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA)  has stated that during the meeting both sides reviewed all important aspects of bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction over the expanding and deepening relations between Nepal and China in recent years. Both sides also agreed to continue cooperation in various regional and multilateral forums on matters of mutual interests.

Appreciating China’s continued support for Nepal’s socio-economic development, Minister Gyawali underlined the need of strengthening cooperation in the fields of connectivity, infrastructure, energy and education.

Foreign Minister Wang assured of Chinese support to Nepal’s development endeavours, the press statement read. Furthermore, the two sides exchanged substantive views on promoting bilateral economic cooperation with special focus on trade, investment and tourism.Both sides underscored the importance of the exchange of high level visits on a regular basis in order to develop mutual trust and confidence, and to further strengthen bilateral relations.

Following the bilateral talks, the two Ministers witnessed signing of the Exchange of Letters on the Hospital Recovery Project in Manang district. Moreover, a MoU was signed and exchanged between the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in Nepal and the Embassy of China in Nepal on Volunteer Chinese Teachers’ Program in Nepal.
