Last rites of NC leader Pradeep Giri performed at Pashupati Aryaghat

Kathmandu: The last rites of the Nepali Congress leader Pradeep Giri have been performed at Pashupati Aryaghat on Sunday.

Leader Giri passed away at the age of 74 while undergoing treatment at Mediciti Hospital in Lalitpur at 9:30 pm last night. He was a cancer patient.

His mortal body was brought to Nepali Congress Central Office, Sanepa from the Hospital for tribute today.

Ministers, top leaders of political parties, and high-level personalities among others paid tribute to late leader Giri.

Nepali Congress President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba paid tribute to late leader Giri by draping the national flag on his mortal remains.

Likewise, CPN-UML Chairperson KP Sharma Oli paid tribute to late leader Giri at Aryaghat.

Late leader Giri was considered as a fearless critic in the political spectrum, a socialist thinker, and an intellectual leader.  

Meanwhile,the Nepali Congress has decided to lower the party flag at the party’s central and all other offices across the country at half-mast for three days on the 22nd and 23rd of August beginning from today to pay tribute to its deceased leader Pradeep Giri.

The party has also put off its programs except for the condolence-paying ones for three days.

An emergency meeting of the central working committee held at the party’s central office, Sanepa, on Sunday, passed a condolence proposal, expressing sorrow over the passing away of leader Giri.
