Police to investigate alleged spot-fixing in Nepal T20 League

January 3, Kathmandu: The Ministry of Home Affairs has instructed the Nepal Police to investigate reports about the spot and match-fixing allegedly taking place in the ongoing Nepal T20 League.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, following the instruction of Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, the Ministry asked the police to conduct a necessary investigation into reports of spot and match-fixing and irregularities in the salary of players, and about the organizers who are reportedly out of contact.

It may be noted that a cricket commentator involved in the tournament released a video alleging spot-fixing in the tournament and that the alarm he raised with the concerned authorities including the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) ended up on deaf ears.

The tournament has been ongoing since December 24 at the Tribhuvan University Ground, Kirtipur.

Following the instructions from the line Ministry, the Nepal Police have already started an investigation into the incident.
