On Air Station:

At least 155 people killed in Tanzania as heavy rains continue in Eastern Africa

Kathmandu: Flooding in Tanzania caused by weeks of heavy rain has killed 155 people and affected more than 200 thousand others.

The AP news agency has quoted Tanjania’s Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa on Thursday as saying the El Niño climate pattern has worsened the ongoing rainy season, causing the flooding and destroying roads, bridges, and railways.

He told the parliament that the schools have been closed and emergency services have rescued people marooned by the flood waters.

Meanwhile, at least 38 people have been killed by floods across Kenya.

The Xinhua news agency has quoted the Kenya Red Cross Society as saying the flood situation is moving from emergency to disaster level.
