District Court of Rautahat sentences life imprisonment to Mohammad Aftab Alam and 3 others

Kathmandu: The District Court of Rautahat has sentenced life imprisonment to four people, including former Minister Mohammad Aftab Alam in Rajapur bomb incident.

The Court issued order life imprisonment to 4 people, including Alam, after a conviction in a murder case. Mohammad Mahatab Alam, Sheikh Saraj (also known as Sheikh Sheraj), Badri Sahani are the other three to be sentenced. The defendant Mukti Shah received a clean chit.

Justice Matrika Prasad Acharya found Alam and four others guilty in the charges in the case.

There were number of charges against Alam including involvement in the production of explosives and offenses relating to murder. But, Alam was denying those charges.

The District Attorney’s Office in Rautahat filed the case against Alam on 4th of November, seeking life imprisonment on the three counts of crime.

A total of 11 people were charged in the crime. Alam and noine were accused of burning injured ones in bomb explosion at a  brick kiln. And remaining one was accused of aiding the crime.

The incident occurred on April 9, 2008. Alam’s associates were illegally constructing a bomb, which resulted in injuries to the associates and deaths of seven people.
