Activist Chaudhari receives Global Anti-Racism Champions award from U.S. State Department

October 22, Kathmandu: Nepali social activist Urmila Chaudhari has been honoured with the ‘Global Anti-Racism Championship Award’ by the U.S State Department.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken presented the award to Chaudhari at a ceremony on Monday.

Chaudhari, a former “Kamalari”, which means a bonded labour was rescued at 17 and provided with an education.

Now, having studied law, she advocates for those without a voice and is actively involved in women’s empowerment through 30 cooperative groups.

The U.S. State Department announced that Chaudhari received the award for her contributions to marginalized and minority communities.

The ceremony, organized by the State Department, was attended by Nepal’s Chargé d’Affaires to the U.S., Kumar Raj Kharel.

Last year, the award was given to another Nepal activist, Saraswati Nepali.
