Chitwan reports increased cases of dengue, scrub typhus

Chitwan: The cases of dengue and scrub typhus have significantly increased since mid-July. So far in the current fiscal year that commenced on July 16, various hospitals here have reported 1,492 positive cases of dengue.

Of them 1,155 are from within the district and the remaining 337 are from outside the district. Public Health Office Chitwan’s Chief Dinesh Rupakheti said in nearly two and half months of the current fiscal year, the detected cases number 1,492 out of 5,113 tests.

The highest infection is from the Bharatpur metropolis as it tallies 462 including two deaths. Similarly, the Ichhakamana rural municipality reports 376 cases followed by 184 in Ratnanagar municipality, 184 in Khairahani municipality, 31 in Kalika municipality, 29 in Rapti municipality and eight in the Madhi municipality.

Last fiscal year’s annual infections numbered 1,831 out of 23,840 tests. The months of Bhadau and Asoj (mid-August to mid-October) is a favourable season for the breeding of a mosquito causing the transmission of dengue. This time, the infections have been on the rise since mid-July.

Similarly, since mid-July, 221 cases of scrub typhus have been reported in the district out of 1,621 tests. Of them, 114 belong to the district and 106 are from outside of the district. Last year’s annual figure of the infection was 248 out of 762 tests.
