Govt at work for public empowerment thru hydropower development: Energy Minister Khadka

Rasuwa: Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Dipak Khadka, has said the government was at work to empower the poor and marginalized people through the development of hydropower.

During a meeting with Nepali Congress party cadres and people’s representatives at Syafrubensi on Wednesday, Minister Khadka informed that the government was making efforts to ensure hydropower shares to the poor and marginalized people.

The Minister arrived here in the course of inspecting the hydropower constructed and under construction in the district. ‘There is a provision of 10 percent hydropower share to the locals, but the poor and marginalized communities have not been ensured it yet. Their access to this provision should be materialized so that their life standard would be elevated,’ he stressed.

The Minister inspected the projects as Upper Trishuli-I, Chilime, Rashuwagadhi, and Sanjen. The power production is awaited from the Chilime Rasuwagadhi because the infrastructure for it is yet to be built.

On the occasion, the Minister was briefed on the problems facing the employees at hydropower projects. Moreover, the Nepali Congress’ district leaders and people’s representatives made the Minister aware of the problems relating to irrigation and landslides.
