713 pregnant women receive air rescue under President’s Women’s Upliftment Program in Karnali

Karnali: Many lives have been saved in Karnali since the launch of an air rescue program for pregnant and postpartum women in remote areas.

The President Woman Upliftment Program under the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens, the program offers free helicopter evacuations to better-equipped hospitals, as many areas lack adequate medical facilities.

This initiative has served 18 districts fully and 29 partially, aiming to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates.

Initiated in the fiscal year 2018/19, the program has successfully provided free air rescue services through the to 713 women so far.

Despite the challenges, Minister for Social Development Ghanshyam Bhandari of Karnali Province informed that the provincial government plans to establish strategic hospitals connected by roads to enhance healthcare accessibility.
