Radio Nepal a common platform of inclusive broadcasting: Minister Gurung

Kathmandu: Radio Nepal has launched its news broadcast in the Danuwar language from today.

The Danuwar language is spoken by the Danuwar community, predominantly living in the hilly and inner Terai regions of central and eastern Nepal.

The broadcast, scheduled for 3:15 PM from Radio Nepal’s Bagmati province broadcast centre, aligns with the constitutional provision aimed at preserving languages and promoting an inclusive society. This marks the 25th language in which Radio Nepal broadcasts news.

Inaugurating the ‘Danuwar Language News and Program Broadcast’ ceremony organized at Radio Nepal’s Central Broadcasting Office in Singhadurbar today, Communication Minister Prithivi Subba Gurung said Radio Nepal has been established as a common platform of inclusive broadcasting with the launch of news and program in Danuwar language.

He stressed making the broadcasting more systematic and organized. Reflecting upon the efforts underway to merge Radio Nepal and Nepal Television into Public Service Broadcasting (PSB), the Communication Minister said there is a need for everyone to support making the broadcasting more inclusive and proportionate.

Similarly, Koshi Province Assembly’s Deputy Speaker Srijana Danuwar said Radio Nepal has accomplished a vital role in uniting all the castes and languages by beginning the broadcasting in the Danuwar language.

On the same occasion, Secretary of the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology Radhika Aryal, said the broadcasting in Danuwar language added another brick to the inclusiveness and diversity of Nepal.

Similarly, Executive Director of Radio Nepal Amar Dhoj Lama said Radio Nepal has been making its broadcasting more inclusive by targeting all the classes and communities in the remote areas to give people the right to information.

Moreover, the Chairperson of the Language Commission Dr. Gopal Thakur said Radio Nepal and the Commission can collaborate to accomplish significant works to promote other languages, scripts and cultures.

General Secretary of the Danuwar Jagaran Committee, Chet Narayan Danuwar said Radio Nepal played a remarkable role in the preservation of the endangered language and spread awareness regarding the language.

Chiefs and representatives of various organizations were also present in the program.
