National Assembly Chairperson Narayan Dahal holds courtesy meeting with IPU President and Secretary General

Geneva: Chairperson of the National Assembly Narayan Prasad Dahal had a courtesy meeting with the President of the Inter-Legislative Association, Dr. Tulia Acksan, and General Secretary Martin Chungong.

In the meeting, mutual cooperation with Nepal’s Federal Parliament and Inter-Legislative Association, exchange of support, parliamentary role for democracy, and other issues were discussed.

In the meeting, Chairperson Dahal said that various meetings and programs of IPU have helped to make the parliamentary role effective through dialogue, cooperation, and exchange of good practices on issues such as democracy, human rights, gender equality, youth empowerment, and sustainable development.

Speaker Dahal said that they are willing to cooperate strongly and closely with the Inter-Legislative Association to further refine parliamentary practice and strengthen democratic institutions. On that occasion, he asked to be in direct contact with the IPU and think about the participation of Nepal in its secretariat.

Adhering to the ideal for democracy for all, the Inter-Legislative Association has been playing an important role in promoting democratic values, democratic methods, and democratic institutions since its inception.

Chairperson Dahal said that he understood the Inter-Legislative Association as a common platform where the needs, aspirations, and problems felt by people around the world can be expressed through the representatives of the people, and its dignity and importance are increasing in the world.

On that occasion, the President of the Inter-Legislative Association, Dr. Tulia Acksan, expressed happiness, saying that Nepal has actively participated in the IPU since the past. He said that the participation of 33 percent women in the federal parliament of Nepal is very commendable, and Nepal is doing a good job in inclusion.

President Tulia said that the secretariat of IPU is still in the process of being organized and said that he will take the initiative to represent Nepali in the secretariat of IPU.

Members of the Nepali parliamentary delegation also participated in the meeting.
