All traffic via Koshi Barrage closed as water flow crosses alarming level

Inaruwa (Sunsari), Sept 28: All traffic movement via the Koshi barrage bridge has been banned in view of rising threats.

With the flow of water crossing the alarming level, vehicular movement via the bridge has been brought to a complete halt.

There has been incessant rain in the eastern hilly districts of the country for the past three days. It has resulted in excessive hike in water level in the rivers.

Issuing a statement today, Assistant Chief District Officer of Sunsari, Bedaraj Phuyal informed that traffic via the Koshi bridge has been put on hold since 4:00 pm until another notice.

The District Administration Office has urged all for using alternative routes in urgency. According to Sunsari Police DSP Navin Krishna Bhandari, the flow of water in Saptakoshi has now exceeded 521,000 cusecs.

He said that all 52 sluices of the Koshi barrage were opened after the water flow crossed the danger level. In addition, DSP Bhandari informed that all four gates of the canal towards Saptari and Sunsari have also been opened.
