94.52 billion rupees sovereign debt added so far in current FY

Kathmandu: The country’s sovereign debt was added by 94.52 billion rupees in the first two months of the current fiscal year.

According to the Public Debt Management Office, the country’s sovereign debt which was 2434.9 billion rupees till the end of the last fiscal year has now reached 2528.62 billion rupees. The country’s sovereign debt is equal to 44.32 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP).

Likewise, the country’s internal debt has reached 1235.9 billion rupees so far from 1180.9 billion rupees in the last fiscal year. The internal debt of Nepal is 21.66 per cent in terms of the GDP ratio. In the first two months of the current fiscal year, the government collected 90 billion rupees as internal debt while it repaid 35 billion rupees.

The external loan to be repaid by the government in the first two months of the current fiscal year has reached 1292.71 billion rupees while such amount was 1253.19 billion rupees till the end of the last fiscal year.

In terms of GDP, the external loan of the country is 22.66 percent. Under Secretary at the Public Debt Management Office, Prakash Pudasaini said that the government has already raised 104.5 billion rupees in public debt against the annual target of 547 billion rupees in the current fiscal year.
