Photo exhibition to commemorate birth centenary of GP Koirala

Kathmandu, July 2: A photo exhibition entitled ‘Krantidekhi Shantisamma (From Revolution to Peace)’ commemorating the birth centenary of former Prime Minister and ex-President of the Nepali Congress, the late Girija Prasad Koirala has begun.

The exhibition organized by the NC Central Department of Information, Communications and Publicity has showcased significant pictures of the life of Koirala. The snapshots taken by several photo journalists during the political life span of veteran democratic leader Koirala have been put up in the exhibition.

Photos representing time before the 2007 BS, leader Koirala’s lifetime and his contemporary leaders are included in the exhibition hosted at the meeting hall of the party central office.

The photos exhibited have reflected three stages of his life –revolution, peace and development works, and post conflict peace process.

Department Chief Min Bahadur Biswokarma informed that the photos would clearly inform the audience about the peace and development stage, Nepal’s economy and the NC-propagated development model.

Along with the photo exhibition, discussion session and documentary screening was also done on the occasion.

Koirala who discharged the role as the head of the nation from 1 Magh 2063 to 8 Shrawan 2065 BS had served the country as the Prime Ministers for fourth time from 2048 to 2065 BS. Koirala had joined the politics through the labour movement in Biratnagar in 2004 BS took the charge of the fifth President of the NC from 29 Baisakh 2053 to 7 Chaitra 2066 BS.

Born in 18 Asar 1981 Koirala had passed away in 7 Chaitra 2066 BS.

The photo exhibition has been organized to inform the present and future generations about the contributions of Koirala from the revolution to the peace process, the Department shared.

According to the NC, the exhibition would last this evening.

Earlier inaugurating the exhibition, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba said that Republic was established in the country because of Girija Prasad Koirala.

” Girija Babu’s contribution to the establishment of the Republic will always be remembered,” he said while noting that due to Girijababu democracy was restored in the country as well as republic. “Girijababu was active in the country’s politics since the 2007 revolution and was a tireless warrior of the democratic movement,” he said.
