‘Cyber security preparedness rehearsal’ conducted to make cyber security more systematic

Kathmandu: The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has conducted a ‘cyber security preparedness rehearsal’ to make cyber security more systematic.

The rehearsal named ‘National Cyber Deal-2024’ was conducted on the issues of how to react or protect the sensitive information technology infrastructures if any unwanted activities or attacks from anywhere on it, said Ministry’s Joint-Secretary and Cyber Security Section Chief, Raj Kumar Maharjan.

The two-day rehearsal was conducted at the Integrated Data Management Centre from Monday. Representatives associated with the Information Technology Emergency Response Team formed as per the provision- National Information Technology Emergency Response Team Operation and Management Directives-2075 had participated in the rehearsal.

Representatives of different bodies concerned including the Finance Ministry, Home Ministry, Nepal Police, Nepali Army, Nepal Rastra Bank and Nepal Telecommunications Authority are in the team.

On the first day of the event, theoretical classes were run while a practical regarding cyber security-related equipment and tabletop exercise was conducted on the second day. ‘There are two objectives behind organising this event. The first objective is to be ready for any type of incident and how to react to such incidents. The second objective is how to coordinate among ministries regarding cyber security,’ he stressed.

The Cyber Security Section of the Ministry has been conducting training related to’ cyber hygiene ‘ to make the general people aware.

Around 3.5 billion US dollars was spent on cyber security across the world in 2004 and it reached 64 billion US dollars in 2011 and 219 billion US dollars in 2023, estimates the International Data Corporation.
