IPU’s role vital in addressing global issues and fostering cooperation: NA Chair Dahal

Kathmandu, Oct 22: National Assembly (NA) Speaker Narayan Prasad Dahal said his visit to Switzerland was a success in orienting international community about Nepal’s foreign policy, constitutional framework and peace process.

In a press meet here today following his participation in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)’s 149th Assembly in Switzerland on October 13-17, NA Chairperson Dahal recognized the vital role of IPU in fostering cooperation and enhancing democratic partnership to address global issues.

In addition to the formal addresses, Dahal claimed that his bilateral meetings with the key figures, including the IPU’s President and General-Secretary as well as President of Swiss National Council and his counterparts from various countries were instrumental in further bolstering Nepal’s international relations and its presence.

He also highlighted the agendas presented by parliamentarians Krishna Prasad Poudel and Taraman Swar in the Asia-Pacific group meeting and Sunita Baral and Nisha Dangi in the Women and Youth Forum’s meetings on the sidelines of the Assembly.

Furthermore, General-Secretary of the Federal Parliament Padam Prasad Pandey participated in the meeting of the General-Secretary’s Forum where, according to Chair Dahal, addressed topics such as parliament and citizens’ participation, news and innovation in parliament and competitive management of parliamentary committees.

The Assembly saw participation of over 1,500 representatives from over 130 of 181 IPU member countries as well as some observer countries, according to Dahal.
