Gandaki: The Kaski District Court has given six days to the District Police Office, Kaski, to keep Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane in judicial custody to investigate his organized crimes and misappropriation of funds of Pokhara’s Surya Darshan Savings and Credit Cooperatives Limited.

According to the Information Officer of Kaski District Court Suraj Adhikari, a single bench of Kaski District Judge Nabaraj Dahal gave six days’ of time to the police for investigation purposes.

On Sunday, Lamichhane was presented before the court to get permission to extend his custody term for further investigations. Lamichhane was arrested in Kathmandu on Friday and was taken to Pokhara on the same night. In the court, government attorney Kamala Kafle defended the government while advocates Sushil Panta and Dr. Narayan Ghimire defended the case on behalf of Lamichhane.

RSP leaders, lawmakers and supporters protested while the RSP president was taken to court. Likewise, tensions erupted at Sahidchowk of Pokhara after the RSP cadres tried to breach a prohibitory order announced by the administration. The prohibitory order was enforced at Sahid Chowk and Gairapatan of Pokhara this morning given the schedule to present RSP Chair President Lamichhane before the court.

As the RSP supporters attempted to enter the restricted areas, police personnel deployed water cannons. The District Police Office Kaski has been conducting an investigation on Lamichhane on the charge of siphoning off the savings of the Pokhara-based cooperatives to Gorkha Media Network in collusion with GB Rai.
