RSS Maithili and Nepal Bhasa news service begins today

Kathmandu, Oct 20: The National News Agency or RSS is going to start disseminating news service in Maithili and Nepal Bhasa languages from today.

The service that was test-started on October 15 will be formally launched today by Minister of Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung at a programme to be held at RSS central office this afternoon.

Executive Chairperson of RSS, Dharmendra Jha, said that the news service has been started in two more mother tongues with the aim of making RSS services inclusive in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution. “The right of citizens to receive information of public interest in their mother tongue should be ensured especially through state-funded public entities,” he said.

The RSS began diversifying its news service with the initiation of news service in Awadhi language from 6 February 2024. The service is being provided in collaboration with Nepalgunj sub-municipal corporation. The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology has supported RSS in launching its news service in two more languages of the country. RSS also disseminate news in Nepali and English languages.

General Manager of RSS, Siddharaj Rai, said Maithili and Nepal Bhasa are spoken by the largest number of people in the country after Nepali and hence we have started news service in these languages.
