Minister Adhikari highlights biodiversity’s role in sustainable agriculture
October 18, Kathmandu: Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Ramnath Adhikari attended the World Food Forum 2024 in Rome, Italy.
Leading a delegation of officials from the ministry, Minister Adhikari participated in the multi-stakeholder meeting and the forum’s inaugural session.
Speaking at the investment session, he called on investors to invest in Nepal’s agriculture sector, highlighting the government’s plan to attract more investment as part of the Agriculture Investment Decade, which begins this year.
He emphasized Nepal’s focus on sustainable agriculture, food security, green production, and transforming agri-food systems.
Minister Adhikari noted Nepal’s rich biodiversity as a key contributor to agricultural sustainability and stated that Nepal’s food systems could serve as a global example.
Kusum Thapa, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Cooperatives, and Natural Resources; Dr. Shivaraj Adhikari, Vice-Chairperson of the National Planning Commission; and Secretary Raj Kumar Shrestha also attended various programs under the forum, according to Minister’s press coordinator Pabin Pokhrel.
The forum, organized by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), began on October 14 and will conclude on Friday (October 18).
