Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar killed by Israeli forces in Gaza

October 16, Kathmandu: Israel has confirmed the killing of Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza, during a military operation in the southern part of the region, according to the BBC.

Sinwar, who had led Hamas since 2017, was regarded by Israel, the US, and the UK as the architect of the October 7 attacks that left around 1,200 people dead in Israel and 251 hostages taken.

BBC quoted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as stating that Sinwar’s death marks the “beginning of the end” of the conflict in Gaza.

The Israeli military said Sinwar was one of three militants killed during a raid in Rafah, where they suspected senior Hamas leaders were operating. No hostages were found at the site, despite previous claims that Sinwar might use hostages as a shield.
