Government decides to provide relief amounts to 71 local levels already declared as disaster crisis zones

Kathmandu: The government is to provide relief amounts to the 71 local levels already declared as disaster crisis zones.

A meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management committee held in Singh Durbar today decided to distribute relief amounts to 71 local levels of 20 districts that have been declared crisis-ridden areas based on the estimated loss and damage.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority’s spokesperson and Joint Secretary Basanta Adhikari, the local levels have been categorized into three zones as per the range of losses incurred.

Spokesperson Adhikari added that 9 hardest hit local levels by the rain-induced disasters would be provided 10 million rupees each while 12 local levels would receive 7.5 million rupees each and 50 local levels would be distributed at the ratio of 5 million rupees.

The meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management committee also decided to recommend National Council increase the number of helicopters and necessary equipment to make the search and rescue efforts during disasters more effective.
