Kathmandu, Oct 24: Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has reminded the world community of Nepal’s rights to climate justice.
He sought cooperation in ensuring Nepal’s easy access to global climate funds and mobilization of climate finance as the country is worst hit by the climate change impact. Paudel said it during a high-level ministerial meeting held in the USA as per of annual meetings of the World Bank Groups and the International Monetary Fund.
DPM Paudel also urged for further responsibility and seriousness on the part of development partners and the entire international community. According to him, it was challenging for Nepal to mobilize financial resources at a time when it has been facing huge natural disasters.
According to the information shared by Finance Secretary Dr Ram Prasad Ghimire to the National News Agency, the loss and damage fund set up for climate justice needs an effective operation, he underlined, arguing that Nepal, despite having a negligible role in the emission of greenhouse gases, is bearing the brunt of climate change impacts. —RSS
