International Home-Based Workers Day: Call to recognise labour

Kathmandu, Oct 20: The International Home-Based Workers Day is being observed in Nepal too by organising various programmes.

The Day is being celebrated with the theme of Home Based Workers United –Towards the Implementation of the ILO C177, Labour Rights, Social Protection and Decent Work.

The Home-Based Worker Concern Society Nepal held a rally today that set out from local Bhrikutimandap and made its way through New Road and Basantapur before returning to the same spot.

Society Chair Prabha Pokhrel emphasized the need for clear provisions regarding home-based workers in the Labour Act-2074 BS, as well as the endorsement and implementation of ILO C177, which pertains to home-based work.

The rally called for recognising the home-based labour in the national census, paper agreement while hiring home-based workers and the guarantee of social protection for them.

Participants advocated for rights such as national holidays, annual leave, sick leave, and festival leave, along with an eight-hour workday.

International Home-Based Workers Day is observed globally on October 20 each year.
