Disaster-hit local levels to receive 5 to 10 million rupees

Kathmandu: The 27th meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Executive Committee has decided to provide relief funds to the local levels affected by the floods and landslides following the heavy rains from September 26 to 29.

The meeting chaired by Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak on Thursday at the office of the NDRRMA at Singhdurbar decided to release relief funds to 71 local levels of the country affected by the natural disaster. The affected local levels will be classified into three categories and provide Rs 5 million to Rs 10 million as relief money, said Basant Adhikari, joint secretary of NDRRMA.

A decision was also taken to recommend to the National Council for Disaster Risk Reduction and Management to provide funds to the affected municipalities as immediate relief through the District Disaster Management Committee.

For long-term reconstruction and rehabilitation, a detailed damage assessment will be done as soon as possible and based on the report the related sectoral agencies will make necessary arrangements to proceed with the reconstruction and rehabilitation work.

Similarly, it has been decided to direct the NDRRMA to prepare a detailed action plan for the reconstruction process.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Health and Population will arrange a free health insurance scheme for the families of people who have lost their loved ones in various disaster incidents that occurred during the monsoon period.

Minister for Health and Population Pradeep Paudel and Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Rajkumar Gupta also attended the meeting.
