Cabinet decisions: 41 local levels declared disaster hit crises zone for three months

Kathmandu: The government has decided to announce 41 local levels hit hard by the floods and landslides as the disaster hit crisis zones for three months.

The meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Friday decided on this regard, said Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung.

“The rescue and relief distribution is going on in the areas hit hard by the floods and landslides. The disaster crisis zones are announced to forward rehabilitation and reconstruction of the crisis zone in an organized manner,” he added.

According to the spokesman of the government, the crisis zones are- Fidim Municipality, Phalelung Rural Municipality, and Falgunanda Rural Municipality of Panchthar; Champadevi Rural Municipality and Sunkoshi Rural Municipality of Okhaldhunga; and Bekala Municipality of Udayapur in Koshi Province.

Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality, Netrawati Dabjong Rural Municipality, Dhunibeshi Municipality and Gajuri Rural Municipality of Dhading; Gourishankar Rural Municipality, Bigu Rural Municipality, and Shailung Rural Municipality of Dolakha; Manthali Municipality, Ramechhap Municipality, Khandadevi Rural Municipality, Dorambha Shailung Rural Municipality, Sunapati Rural Municipality, Likhu Tamakoshi Rural Municipality, Gokulganga Rural Municipality and Umakunda Rural Municipality of Ramechhap are from Bagmati Province.

Other local levels on the list are Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality of Sindhupalchowk, Bagmati Rural Municipality, Konjyosom Rural Municipality and Godawari Municipality of Lalitpur district.

Similarly, Roshi Rural Municipality, Panauti Municipality, Temal Rural Municipality, Namobuddha Municipality, Bethanchowk Rural Municipality, Mandandeupur Municipality, Chauri Deurali Rural Municipality and Mahabharat Rural Municipality in Kavrepalanchowk districtwere also announced as crisis zone.

Golanjor Rural Municipality, Sunkoshi Rural Municipality and Phikkal Rural Municipality of Sindhuli district; Indrasarobar Rural Municipality, Bakaiya Rural Municipality of Makawanpur district; Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Madi Municipality, Icchakamana Rural Municipality of Chitwan district are also in the list crises zone.

The highways and roads in these local levels were damaged due to rain-induced disasters. Likewise, river basin areas were inundated and other infrastructures and livestock were swept away.

The telephone towers and electricity lines that sustained damages in the disasters led to disruption in communication services in these local levels, said Minister Gurung, adding that the disasters also incurred loss to agriculture sector.

Declaration of crises zone would further facilitate effective reconstruction and rehabilitation in the affected areas.
