NA rescues 713 individuals from monsoon-induced disasters

Kathmandu: The Nepali Army (NA) has rescued 713 persons trapped by floods, inundation and other monsoon-induced disasters. They were airlifted using NA helicopters.

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry’s Spokesperson Rishiram Tiwari said the NA rescued people from Kavre, Sindhuli, Makawanpur, Lalitpur and Kathmandu districts until this evening at the request of the ministry.

A total of 532 individuals stranded in different places after the vehicular disruption along the BP Highway were shifted to safe places and were rushed to hospital from Kavre district, Tiwari added.

‘Private helicopters have also been used for the rescue operation from the affected areas,’ he said. Three helicopters of NA were mobilized from Saturday to this evening for the rescue operation.

According to Tiwari, the rescue by helicopters has reached the final stage though the helicopters could be flown as per the needs on Tuesday too. The NA team has also supplied relief materials by its helicopters to the affected sites.

The Ministry said that more than 4,000 people were safely rescued from across the country in the recent incidents of disasters.

Likewise, the Home Ministry said that 209 individuals died from the monsoon-induced disasters as of Monday evening. The officials and security personnel are working to clear the debris and resume traffic along the highways.
