Nepal begins vegetable exports to Qatar

Kathmandu: The export of vegetables grown in Nepal to Qatar began on Thursday.

Approximately 2,000 kilograms of vegetables cultivated in Dakshinkali Municipality, Kathmandu, were shipped to Qatar as the initial step of the Agriculture Programme, supported by the China Foundation for Rural Development (CFRD) Nepal Office, according to Mohan Basnet, Mayor of Dakshinkali Municipality.

“The vegetable shipment was delivered to the Ambassador of Qatar to Nepal, Mishal Mohammed Al-Ansari, during an event at the Tribhuvan International Airport Customs Office on Thursday,” he stated.

Dr. Narahari Prasad Ghimire, Director General of the Department of Agriculture, expressed delight over the export of Nepalese vegetables to Qatar.

Vegetable cultivation in Dakshinkali has been part of the Agriculture Promotion Programme by the China Foundation for Rural Development.

The export is expected to contribute to Nepal’s economic growth and encourage local farmers to pursue vegetable farming. The Foundation provided farmers with specialized training and agricultural tools.

The initiative to export vegetables from Nepal to Qatar, with technical and financial support from China, marks a significant step in the nation’s agricultural progress.

The vegetables sent to Qatar include red cherry pepper chilli (Akabare), flat beans, and bitter gourd.

The Qatari ambassador anticipated that the vegetables from Dakshinkali Municipality’s local farmers would be well-received in Qatar and emphasized the importance of maintaining their freshness and quality.
