Egyptian Embassy marks National Day, pledges support for Nepal’s development goals

July 23, Kathmandu: The Embassy of Egypt in Kathmandu, on Tuesday, marked its National Day with a renewed commitment to support Nepal’s ambition to graduate from the status of Least Developed Country (LDC) to a developing country by November 2026.

During the ceremony, with Vice President Ram Sahay Prasad Yadav as the chief guest, Egyptian Ambassador Noha Elgebaly highlighted the ever-growing bilateral relations between Egypt and Nepal, established in 1957.

Ambassador Elgebaly emphasized Egypt’s dedication to Nepal’s economic and social progress and political stability. She noted the potential for cooperation between the two nations on various multilateral platforms, including the Non-Aligned Movement and G77.

The Ambassador also underscored the importance of partnership on mutual interests such as climate change, praising Nepal as a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement and a close ally of Egypt.

She pointed out that the pyramids of Egypt and Mount Everest of Nepal are iconic tourist attractions that symbolize the deep cultural ties between the two countries.

Highlighting educational cooperation, Ambassador Elgebaly announced that Egypt has provided higher education opportunities to 300 Nepali students and is committed to increasing the scholarship quota.

Reflecting on Egypt’s development since the 1952 revolution, Ambassador Elgebaly expressed hope for continued progress in bilateral relations. The event saw participation from ministers, former ministers, high-level government officials, businesspeople, media personnel, and people from various walks of life.
