World Champions Gupta and Badia given a grand welcome in home district Banke

Banke 8 July. Nepal has won the gold medal in the 11th International Strength Lifting Championship held in Kazakhstan.

Under the strength lifting competition, conducted from 15th July to 19th July, Kedareshwar Mann Sattala won the gold medal by beating players from all over the world in the bench press, while Mohit Gupta won by getting 1 silver and 1 bronze.

Ambassador Shankar Prasad Sharma, Deputy Chief of Mission Surendra Thapa, General Prakash Lamichhane, Senior Superintendent of Police Uma Chaturvedi and other officials honoured the athletes Kedareshwar Mann, Mohit Gupta, Sanu Kancha Lama, Amar Lama, Amrita Khadka Sherpa and Karan Badia, who received gold medals during a program on Monday, during their return to Nepal after winning the Championship.

One of the winners Mohit Gupta said that the team from Nepal won about 11 medals in the competition. After returning to their home district Nepalgunj, the residents there honoured them at the Nepalgunj Jamuniha border crossing.

Mohit Gupta further said that despite securing a large number of medals for Nepal and keeping the nation’s honour at the highest level in the world, most of the athletes participated in the tournament at their own expense. He said, “Let’s hope that the Nepalese government will deal fairly with the players who hoist the moon and sun flag while keeping the national pride high at the international level.”
