On Air Station:

Birthing centre padlocked

Humla, July 23: A school management committee has padlocked a birthing centre at Thaligaon of Kharpunath rural municipality in the district.

The management committee of the local Shankar Secondary School padlocked the basic health facility reasoning that the contractor building the birthing centre failed to pay Rs 650 million as per agreement with the committee.

The birthing centre is built on the school’s land. Meanwhile, the padlocking of the essential health facility has adversely affected the service seekers. Rakesh Rawal, Chairman of the Guardian Association here, informed that the contractor had agreed to provide the amount to the school before launching construction of the birthing centre, but it failed, resulting in the closure of the birthing centre.

He further warned that it would not be opened till the agreement is fulfilled.
