Parliamentary Committee’s directive to speed up the functioning of Kesar Library

Kathmandu, June 25: The National Assembly, Public Policy and Delegated Legislation Committee has given instructions to start the saffron library as soon as possible. The committee inspected the library building under construction today and instructed to complete the construction work as soon as possible and take initiatives for the operation of the library. The team including Chairman of the Committee Maya Prasad Sharma directed the Head of the Library Suresh Kumar Yadav to secure and manage the library. The committee inspected the library building for the second time.

On the occasion, the committee was informed that 80 per cent progress has been made so far. The renovation and retrofitting of the Keshar library building was damaged in the earthquake of 2072 and was started in 2076. Although it was said that the work would be completed within two years, the parliamentarians objected that it was not completed even within six years.

Chairman of the committee Sharma asked about the delay in the construction and when the rest of the work would be completed. Yadav, the head of the library, replied that there was some delay in the sealing of the building. He informed that the bidding period has been extended by nine months for that. “We are hopeful that the library will be ready by March”, he said, “About 80 per cent of the work has been completed.”

According to Yadav, 65,000 old and new books are preserved in the library. There are 1,150-year-old handwritten texts here. 12 people including Speaker Sharma, MPs Gopal Bhattarai, Gomadevi Timilsina, Gopal Kumar Basnet, Padam Bahadur Periyar, Madankumari Sah (Garima), Yuvraj Sharma, Rukmini Koirala, Renu Chand, Shri Krishna Prasad Adhikari and Sumitra BC raised various queries.
