Dolpa needs sufficient budget: Urban Development Minister Budha

Kathmandu: Urban Development Minister Dhan Bahadur Budha has urged the government to make budget allocations based on the geographical remoteness of areas. Speaking at a meeting of the National Assembly (NA) today, the Minister said remote areas should be prioritized during the allocations of budget for a ‘just’ appropriation.

Only the size of the population can’t be the indicator for the just distribution, he argued. He said the budget allocation (around 1.83 percent of the total allocations) to Dolpa, home to around 43,000 population, this year was needed, indeed.

It, however, is still not sufficient to address the needs of the district people who are bound to struggle for access to salt and rice, the very basic survival needs, according to him.

Minister Budha underlined the need for sufficient budget allocation to the district and a rapid pace of development there. He also claimed the government this time implemented the need-basis approach in the budget allocations.
