RSS will provide round-the-clock service from coming fiscal year: Minister Sharma

Kathmandu: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Rekha Sharma has shared that an arrangement has been made to disseminate Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) service round-the-clock from the coming fiscal year.

In today’s meeting of the National Assembly, responding to queries raised in the course of discussion on the Appropriation Bill, Minister Sharma mentioned that necessary arrangements have been made to disseminate RSS service round the clock from the coming fiscal year.

The RSS has now been providing 18 hours of service. In addition to video service, RSS would also disseminate news in the Maithili language and Nepalbhasa from the coming fiscal year, she added.

The government has made necessary arrangements to provide quality mobile service to the people, added Minister Sharma, stating that a process to provide necessary information about disaster preparedness with the help of Radio Nepal and through SMS with the help of Telecommunications service providers has already begun.

The Ministry has made necessary arrangements to provide early warning of disaster through private media houses and internet service providers, stressed Minister Sharma. She stated that there is a guarantee of collection of revenue of billions of rupees due to efforts taken by the ministry.

Communications and Information Technology Minister Sharma said the revenue collection has increased owing to the good governance maintained at the Ministry and the bodies under it.

Mentioning that the government has brought the required plans, policies and programmes with the goal of developing the country as a hub of information technology and increasing employment, she made it clear that the upcoming decade has been declared as the Information Technology Decade.

The government’s 16th Plan also mentions the information technology sector as the transformative sector and the goal is to export IT services equivalent to Rs 3 trillion in 10 years.
