Parliamentarians calls for increase in education budget and agriculture modernization in NA

Kathmandu, July 3: MPs voiced demands to increase the budget allocated for education and accelerate the modernization of agriculture.

During discussions on the Appropriation Bill for 2024 in National Assembly today, MPs emphasized the need to enhance funding for these sectors amidst proposals for expenditure reduction.

MP Padam Bahadur Pariyar highlighted concerns regarding the education sector, noting that the proposed budget for the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology falls short of current needs.

Meanwhile, MP Anand Prasad Dhungana underscored the importance of modernizing agriculture for poverty alleviation and sustainable development.

He expressed disappointment over a proposed budget cut for agriculture in the upcoming fiscal year, arguing that this reduction would hinder efforts to address farmers’ challenges, such as access to fertilizers and irrigation facilities.

The parliamentarians urged the government to reconsider its allocation strategy to ensure sufficient resources are directed towards education and agriculture, vital pillars for Nepal’s socio-economic progress.
