DPM Shrestha stresses analyzing evolving geo-political situation

Kathmandu: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha has pointed out the need to analyze the evolving geo-political situation with a focus on securing national interests.

Addressing a programme organised by the Institute of Foreign Affairs here on Monday, DPM Shrestha expressed the view that relations should be maintained with the global community including development partners with a priority on the fundamental interests of the country and people as well as the developing geo-political scenario.

‘Diplomacy is the first and last medium of defence for a country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, stability and national independence,’ he said. The Foreign Minister emphasized the concrete initiatives for capacity building of diplomats and organizations related to diplomacy.

He shared that the scope of international support and dialogue has further expanded due to challenges following climate change, cyber and energy security, international organised crime and artificial intelligence.

Expressing the view that the importance of diplomacy has further increased due to geo-political competition and new sensitive cases, DPM Shrestha said, ‘We must have much diplomatic skill and perfection to face new challenges.’
