Discussions begin to address demands of Federal Parliament staff

Kathmandu, June 17:

Discussions on the demands and the agitation of the staff at the Federal Parliament Secretariat have started in Singha Durbar.

The discussion is taking place with the Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire, and the Chairman of the National Assembly Narayan Prasad Dahal.

Similarly, chief whips and whips of various political parties and high officials of the Secretariat are also attending the discussions.

The Federal Parliament Secretariat Employees Union has been holding a protest since June 12, putting forth an 11-point demand, including the need to update the Employees Administration Regulations, 2065 and amend Schedule 12 promptly, to give incentive allowances for additional work, and reforms in staff welfare fund.

The agitating employees protested tying black armbands in the parliament session. Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Indira Rana, Vice-chair of the National Assembly Bimala Ghimire, Secretary-General of the Parliament Secretariat, Padma Prasad Pandey, among other high-level officials are present in the discussion. Currently, 390 employees are working in the Parliament Secretariat.
