No dispute in ruling alliance, DPM Lamichhane says

Kathmandu, June 17: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Rabi Lamichhane has said that the government was devising some plans and mechanisms to effectively curb criminal activities by the best use of available means and human resources.

Talking to RSS senior reporter Prakash Silwal after visiting RSS Photo Exhibition at the RSS central office yesterday, the DPM said Nepal’s border area (with India) was a challenging issue for security reasons in the past and added that the government was making some efforts for reforms though they were insufficient.

“The strategic recommendations given for the implementation in different province-level security meetings are being enacted. I am sure that such (criminal) activities will not happen in the coming days. No guilty person will be spared. We have initiated the search for the absconding accused,” Minister Lamichhane said referring to the murder case of a Campus Chief of Bara district.

Asked about why his party’s minister talked about his resignation from the ministerial post, DPM Lamichhane said the statement was made concerning the budget and admitted that there are some discontents within the ruling parties on the budget for the upcoming fiscal year. “But, there is no challenge in the ruling alliance,” according to Lamichhane.

On transitional justice, DPM Lamichhane said that the bill on transitional justice has reached the final stage for consensus at the top political leadership.

He added that consensus would be forged on the bill if the top leadership of the major political parties agreed on fundamental principles of human rights and if it was prepared by being victim-centric.

“However, a commitment is needed not to make this a political issue,” the DPM shared.
