Over 1,500 HIV/AIDS cases detected among 200,000 tested in Nepal

May 27, Kathmandu During health examinations of approximately 200,000 people in Nepal, 1,500 individuals were found to be infected with HIV/AIDS.

According to the economic survey of the fiscal year 2080/2081 BS, presented by Finance Minister Barshaman Pun in both Houses of the Federal Parliament on Sunday, 197,167 people were tested, and 1,536 were found to be HIV positive. This data is current as of February of the current financial year.

During this period, 35,043 HIV-infected individuals have received medication from the Anti-Retroviral Treatment (ART) Center. Additionally, until February of the last financial year, drugs were distributed to 23,760 infected women, including 61 pregnant women participating in the Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission (PMTCT) program through the ART Center.
