Emphasis laid on skills to generate self-employment

Patan: The Mayor of Lalitpur Metropolitan City Chiri Babu Maharjan has emphasized that the metropolis would impart skill-oriented training which is useful to create and promote self-employment and entrepreneurship.

At an interaction program, Mayor Maharjan shared that the training and skill-oriented programmes would not only distribute certificates of completion but also create an atmosphere to promote skills and employment at the local level.

‘Participants in today’s interaction also underscored the skills oriented to self-employment. Similarly, participants in a public hearing conducted a few days ago had suggested the urgency of launching training schemes,’ he reminded.

Mayor Maharjan expressed commitment to run such training by taking into account the suggestions as well as the availability of budget. Sharing that more than 30,000 youths are now in self-employment activities in the Lalitpur metropolis alone, he explained that the metropolis has a plan to increase the number of people in this scheme.

Women and backward communities were prioritized for the programme as set in collaboration with the Employment Service Centre, according to him.

Similarly, Deputy-Mayor Manjali Shakya said the metropolitan city had been implementing a special plan for human development and employment to youths along with infrastructures and construction activities.

Stating that it had been running training by prioritizing the handicraft sector, she mentioned that the metropolis was committed to creating employment opportunities for youths in the country.
