Phunjo Lama atop Sagarmatha claiming record of fastest climber
Kathmandu: Nepali woman climber Phunjo Jhangmu Lama of Gorkha district has set a record for the fastest ascent to the Sagarmatha, reaching the world’s highest peak, in less than 15 hours.
Phunjo was atop the world’s tallest peak at 6:23 am on Thursday, setting the record for the fastest ascent by a woman.
Chief of the Tourism Department’s Temporary Field Office, Khimlal Gautam, confirmed that Phunjo reached the top of the tallest peak at 6:23 am starting her expedition at 3:52 pm on Wednesday from the Everest Base Camp.
She reached the top of the world in 14 hours 31 minutes.
Earlier in 2018, Phunjo had set a record by scaling Mt Everest in 39 hours 6 minutes.
