KMC publishing details of public importance

Kathmandu, May 8: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is going to proactively publish and broadcast the statistics and details of public importance.

KMC is preparing to sensitize the representatives within its regulatory jurisdiction about the information flow mechanism. At present, community and institutional schools, teaching and educational institutions, cooperatives and health service providers are within the jurisdiction of the KMC.

KMC’s Information Officer Basanta Acharya shared that the Communication and Information Act issued by the KMC in 2080 BS has a provision to implement ‘Right to Information’ in its Chapter 8.
The KMC, thus, acknowledges practising the right to information on affairs of public importance, protection and promotion, proactive publication, broadcasting and information delivery as its responsibilities.

Also, those agencies and organizations within its jurisdiction shall compulsorily assign information officers to ensure the provision of information to the public, said Acharya.

Similarly, Deputy Spokesperson in the KMC Deepak Adhikari clarified that the KMC had been regularly providing information on matters of public concerns and importance and that information was disseminated to the public through mass media.
The right to information has been enshrined in our constitution as a fundamental right. Citizens can seek information from any public office about matters of personal or public concern.

Also, the law related to the right to information stipulates that while seeking information, it must be sought in a written form and it shall be received within the stipulated time.
Also, the information seeker could file a complaint against the information officer for not providing information.
