US Embassy celebrates women who didn’t let “glass ceiling” limit them

March 28, Kathmandu: The US Embassy in Kathmandu, on Wednesday, organized a networking event to celebrate the achievements of prominent Nepali women in various fields, coinciding with Women’s History Month in the month of March.

The event drew the participation of 50 leading Nepali women from diverse sectors. A video address from U.S. Ambassador Neal Dean R. Thompson was shown during the reception, where he reiterated the US Embassy’s longstanding support for Nepali women and the US’s commitment to helping empower women to become major stakeholders in progress and growth.

During her welcome address, US Embassy spokesperson Zehra Naqvi underscored the event’s dual purpose: recognizing and honouring women’s contributions while fostering connections among women leaders.

“You’re all here because you didn’t let any glass ceiling define how high you could or would go; you used your voice to advocate for yourself, for others, or for doing the right thing. You’re inspiring, you’re role models to young and old, boys and girls because you persevere over and over again,” Naqvi remarked.

The reception featured an admiration wall displaying the pictures/names of each attendee, with red envelopes below. Guests were encouraged to write notes of admiration for fellow attendees and deposit them in the envelopes. The notes were later distributed to whom it was written.

Notable attendees included Sewa Lamsal, the first woman Foreign Affairs Secretary of Nepal, Supreme Court Justice Sapana Malla Pradhan, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol, and other distinguished women leaders.
