DPM Shrestha and CPPCC Chairman Wang stress economic cooperation

March 24, Kathmandu: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Narayan Kaji Shrestha, currently on an official visit to the People’s Republic of China (PRC), on Monday engaged in bilateral talks with Wang Huning, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and Member of the Politburo Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

The discussions in Beijing underscored the robust and enduring relationship between Nepal and China, with both leaders expressing satisfaction with the current state of affairs and a shared commitment to advancing cooperation.

Economic development emerged as a central theme of the dialogue, reflecting Nepal’s strategic focus on enhancing prosperity following political transformations.

Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha reiterated Nepal’s steadfast adherence to the One-China policy, emphasizing the historical ties between the two nations.

He emphasized the critical role of Chinese assistance in Nepal’s economic development trajectory, advocating for continued support from China.

During the meeting, DPM Shrestha also brought attention to practical measures to facilitate economic collaboration, including the resumption of operations at 14 traditionally operated border points along the Nepal-China border and the establishment of regular flights from various Chinese cities to Pokhara International Airport.

Chairman Wang reciprocated the sentiment, acknowledging the positive impact of high-level exchanges on bilateral relations and assured China’s unwavering support for Nepal’s economic prosperity.

He extended China’s readiness to assist Nepal in its efforts to graduate from the Least Developed Country (LDC) status.
