Parliamentary diplomacy stressed as essential for global peace

March 25, Kathmandu: Speaker of the House of Representatives, Devraj Ghimire, emphasized the critical role of parliamentary involvement in diplomacy at the 148th Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly in Geneva.

He underscored that parliamentary diplomacy added democratic legitimacy to international relations, ensuring citizen voices shape decision-making.

Ghimire highlighted Nepal’s commitment to peace and urged cooperation to address global challenges, including climate change.

He emphasized the need for nations to respect each other’s existence and collaborate on shared interests.

The Inter-Parliamentary Union, practising parliamentary diplomacy for 135 years, provides a platform for dialogue and cooperation on peace, security, democracy, human rights, and sustainable development.
